Frequently Asked Questions

What is an advertiser and/or publisher?

An advertiser is a business that needs to market its product and services to the Muslim market. Publishers are websites that publish content to draw Muslim visitors and readers. In traditional marketing, a TV station like NBC or ABC is the publisher and the advertiser produces commercials to reach the audience that watches the shows (content). Online, the advertiser creates banner advertisements to reach the audience that is reading and watch online content. Our publishers display these advertisements on their webpage to help get you more customers.

How quickly can you launch my campaign?

That’s easy! Once we have all the banner ads (creatives) for your campaign, we can have your campaign live within a few hours!

Where do my ads show up? How do I know they are showing up there?

Since we are advertising online, your ads will appear up online. Our publishers show your ads on their website using our advertising platform. In traditional advertising, a TV station would be considered a publisher (they publish/produce shows for an audience to watch) and they profit from advertisers putting TV commercials on those channels. With internet marketing, the TV station is now a website and the commercial is now a banner advertisement. But the end result is to help you get more business.

We are all in this together to help each other out. Advertiser. Publisher. Network. Muslim Ad Network has special relationships with our publishers to get you the best rates and the best ad placement, all in one place. Whenever someone visits our publisher, an ad will show on the page showcasing your banner ad. Since all of our publishers target and focus on Muslims, you can rest assure that your advertising is always relevant. No research and guesswork required.

Best of all, your success is measurable. At the end of every week we will send you detailed reports about your campaign performance. You will know how many people saw your advertisement (how does the potential of 100,000 Muslims PER DAY seeing your ad sound to you?). We can even tell you how many of those people went to your webpage. No matter how big or how small your advertisement is, you are guaranteed to know how your ad is performing.

Why should I go through a middleman when I can go directly to the website on your publisher list?

We are more than just a middleman. We are experts about the highly-affluent Muslim consumer market, and we will work with you to launch a campaign that will result in the best ROI for your business. If you haven’t already noticed, we have an extensive publisher list. If you had the time and the energy to contact every single one, then you would find out many of those publishers have exclusive pricing agreements with us. So, not only are you saving time because you can access all those publishers from one channel, you are going to save money as well.

Additionally, if you were to contact publishers yourself, you would need to customize individual campaigns to suit your banners. Not all publishers will offer the same banners and your marketing team will have to produce many iterations of the same creative – costing you more time and money. Then, instead of contacting each publisher to get your campaign placed, you would have to ensure they started your campaign on it’s agreed upon start date, request metrics and data from each publisher, and eventually, end your campaign with them.

So, Muslim Ad Network has taken all the guesswork out of the equation. Additionally, if you want to be confident that you can always reach someone on the phone, you know you can always reach us.

How is my payment calculated, can you provide me with a breakdown?

75% net goes to you. Your payment is calculated by your Impressions x Fill Rate x eCPM. eCPM fluctuates and is based on how many ads our advertisers have purchased that month. It also depends on how many ads we direct sold versus filled through premium partners.

Are payment rates CPA (cost per click) or CPM (cost per impressions) based?

Our payments are CPM based per thousand impressions. It is still important to get clicks because we traffic our highest earning ads towards the sites with the highest Click Through Rates (CTR). You’ll earn higher payouts with a higher CTR.

How often will I get paid?

We pay you monthly, with no minimum payout, 75 days after the end of each monthly cycle. In other words, you’ll collect January revenue in mid-April, and what you earned in that given month is what you’ll get paid, period.

What sort of revenue might I expect?

Our average payout is highly competitive at over $1.75 CPM per thousand impressions.

What ad sizes do you offer?

We offer three ad sizes: a mobile-optimized 970×250 leaderboard, a mobile-optimized 300×600 sidebar, and a mobile-optimized 300×250 box. We find that these ad sizes get the best click through rates and help us retain higher ad revenue for everyone in the network. You can run any combination of ad sizes or all three, and will of course earn more if you use all three.

Can you send me another ad tag size?

Unfortunately, we don’t have other ad sizes in our inventory (like 728×90) to be able to serve to you. The upside to this is that it translates to much higher earnings for our website and blog publishers across the network! Some of our network sites choose to tweak their layout after seeing how everything looks with the ad tags in place, so please keep that in mind as an option.

Why am I seeing other ad sizes and shapes on my leaderboard?

Your leaderboard tag is designed for high-earning 970×250 ads, but can receive 970×66, 728×90, and 300×250 ads based on available inventory from our ad server and backfill providers. This is the direction that ad servers are going, and what industry leaders like Google and AppNexus are adopting as a best practice.

The advantage is that AppNexus has more options in what they can serve you, and they optimize your leaderboard by serving the ad that earns you the most revenue at any given time. If a 300×250 ad is available that earns you more than a 970×250, for example, that’s what you’ll see in that spot.

We know it can look a little weird, but rest assured it is maximizing your revenue. Our 970×250 leaderboards are our highest priority ads, and most of your website visitors who visit just once or twice a day will see exclusively these. The remaining ads are served to visitors who visit your website multiple times a day.

Where do the ads need to be placed?

We require that our ad units be above the fold. For the 970×250 leaderboard, this is rarely an issue. For the 300×600 sidebar and 300×250 box, so long as ~20% of the ad is visible without scrolling, you’re good.

Can I run more than 3 AdBarcadero ad spots?

We are only able to fulfill up to three ads per website / blogger. Any more and we find that the aggregate performance of each begins to decline, making it harder for us to retain higher ad revenue for everyone in the network.

Am I bound only to your advertising?

Our ads must be above the fold, but otherwise you are free to use other (non-exclusive) ad networks in addition to ours. It’s likely that you’ll earn more from our ads than you will from any other ad network, so please feel free to run both and compare.

I currently do Google ads. Could I do both?

Yes, you can do both! You are welcome to use other (non-exclusive) ad networks in addition to ours as long as our units appear above the fold. It’s likely that you’ll earn more from our ads than you will from Google, so please feel free to run both and compare.

I’m working with another ad network that has first call on above the fold ads on my site. Can I still work with the Riot Ad Network as my secondary provider for above the fold ads?

Yes! We can still work together as your secondary provider for above the fold ads. We’ll generate a special third party ad code that you can give to your primary ad network to set as the default creative.

You’ll need to set a “floor price” with your primary ad network. The “floor price” tells your primary network to “passback” the impression to the Riot Ad Network if the primary network doesn’t have an ad to deliver above that price. Your primary network can likely recommend a floor price for your site on their network. For most sites, $1.40 CPM is a good place to start.

I’m working with another ad network that is exclusive above the fold. Am I able to use Riot Ad Network ads below the fold or on other pages in my site?

We’re only interested in above the fold placement, because it earns a higher click through rate and helps us retain higher advertising revenue for everyone in the network.

Are the ads going to be book related or not?

You will see a mix of book and non-book ads on your site. Riot Ad Network ads come from a few different sources. The ads that we direct-sell are often book related, and we also work with premium ad partners that fall outside the books and reading category.

Will my site be served pop-up ads?

Most of our ads are either static jpgs or gifs on a 4-second animation cycle.

We do see occasional rollover ads through our partnerships with our premium backfill providers. These ads play music and expand if they are moused over for more than 3 seconds. Audio typically plays as an advance warning before the ad expands; if the mouse is moved away, then it won’t expand.

We run these rollover ads on our Owned & Operated sites, too, and understand that they can be a nuisance. But they do positively impact earnings and eCPMs, and are part of the the premium backfill packages we’ve negotiated on behalf of the network.

What sort of control will I retain over what is advertised? Do I have the right to refuse ads?

In many instances, you can opt out of book-related ads you don’t want on your site. Send us a note when you want to opt out of a book-related ad, and we can remove it from your site if it’s an ad that we’ve direct sold. You’ll probably notice a slight dip in earnings for a few weeks during the rest of that campaign since these are our highest paying ads.

We also work with a few premium ad partners and can’t always control what will flow through to your site. One example is ads for health and beauty products. We don’t have the ability to block these ads for individual websites or blogs in the network. If you report ads that are clearly inappropriate for the average website visitor (e.g. pornography, illegal drugs, piracy), we will evaluate these on a case-by-case basis and request to have those blocked for everyone in the ad network.

Where / how exactly do I insert the ad tags into the html?

We’ll provide you with general instructions for placing your Quantcast and ad tags. We try to make this as painless as possible for you, but if you need assistance we recommend checking in with the support folks where your website is hosted (e.g. Blogger, Tumblr, Squarespace,, etc.). Look for a “help” or “contact” link when you’re logged into your website or blog.

I’m interested receiving ads from the AdBarcadero Ad Network. How can I get more information and apply?

Thanks your interest in the Riot Ad Network! You can find information about our network and apply at this link: Please let us know if you have any other questions after looking around.

How long is this agreement for, and how do I end it, should I choose to?

The agreement has no set term. You may end the agreement at any time by giving us 30 days advance notice.

I want to participate in the AdBarcaderoAd Network but am not quite ready. Is that OK?

Sure, you are welcome to wait until you’re ready and / or finish out other agreements. You can still get agreement forms and Quantcast codes taken care of now if you’d like to expedite the process.

Our ads won’t start appearing on your site until you physically insert a code snippet that we’ll generate and send to you after everything else is squared away. Keep us in the loop and let us know when you’re ready.
